About Roslyn, New York

Roslyn has a long history that dates back many centuries. English settlers first put down roots in the area in 1643. Originally they called the community Hempstead, but residents changed the name to Roslyn in 1844 to avoid confusion with other Long Island towns also called Hempstead.

You can still see evidence of Roslyn's rich history today in the historic buildings scattered throughout the village. The oldest of these dates back to 1680. In fact, you can find buildings from nearly every century up to the present day in Roslyn, NY.
